***Note new, EARLIER meeting and start times for all summer rides beginning in May***May 7 - North Tampa Ride to Odessa
May 14 - Pinellas Trail to Tarpon Springs and Fred Howard Beach
May 21 - Oldsmar DiscoveryBeginning with an uphill, "warm-up" loop through Philippe Park we will ride around the northern-most shores of Tampa Bay to discover the hidden parks and trails of Oldsmar. Expect one bridge to climb, along with some spectacular waterfront views of Upper Tampa Bay. Oldsmar was named for R.E. Olds, an early automotive pioneer and founder of the REO Motor Car Company, and R.E. Olds Park on the shores of upper Tampa Bay is one of the first areas we'll pass through. Our journey next takes us to Mobbly Beach Park, then to Mobbly Bayou along the Oldsmar Trail, continuing with a loop through Hillsborough County's Upper Tampa Bay Park before we work our way back to our cars. Restrooms at the start and at Upper Tampa Bay Park, our midway point. We'll drive to breakfast after the ride.
June 4 - Davis Islands Ride
June 11 - Trout Creek to Flatwoods Park
From Trout Creek Park we'll ride north on Morris Bridge Road, cross the Hillsborough River and then enter Flatwoods Park. We'll ride the 7-mile Flatwoods paved loop, an extra side loop over a boardwalk and then the 2-mile extension out to Bruce B. Downs. After a brief rest stop we'll retrace our route back to Trout Creek. Look for deer, turkey and other wildlife in the woods. There are long stretches of open pavement for those who like to speed away from the group. We'll breakfast at a local eatery after the ride. There are restrooms and water at the start and halfway into the ride.
June 18 - Hyde Park to Port Tampa and Picnic Island
This ride will explore some of Tampa's oldest neighborhoods such as Old Hyde Park, New Suburb Beautiful, Golfview, Palma Ceia and the "real" South Tampa, including a stop at the Spanish American War Park. The halfway point is bustling Port Tampa and then the quiet serenity of Picnic Island Park, where, on a clear day you can spot Weedon Island, the St. Petersburg skyline and, often, the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. The ride then winds back through South Tampa, Bayshore Blvd and Hyde Park as we return to our starting location. Restrooms at the start, midway and end of the ride. Breakfast at Zudar's (known for their "famous" desserts) at the end of the ride.
June 25 - Tierra Verde/Ft. Desoto Nature Ride
The beaches of Ft. Desoto Park are rated among our Nation's Top Ten. Come and see why as we ride the park's scenic roads and bike trails. We'll visit both the South and the North beaches as well as the historic fort and pier. The park's trail takes us along large areas of restored native plants and beautiful views of the Gulf of Mexico and the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Once back at our cars we'll walk to breakfast at a local eatery.
