We begin by riding through pretty and peaceful South Tampa neighborhoods, and then continue south to Port Tampa and Picnic Island where we take a break. We ride on in Port Tampa to the American Legion Post where we enjoy a scenic "bayside" breakfast, and then pedal back to our cars.


May 8th - Friendship Trail to St. Petersburg

We begin on the west (Pinellas) side of the Gandy Bridge and ride west on Gandy, then south past Weedon Island to St. Petersburg. We'll wend our way along Coffee Pot Bayou, Old Northeast and downtown St. Pete. Our breakfast stop is at a local cafe in downtown St. Pete. On the return trip we'll either tour Snell Isle and its waterfront mansions or enjoy the wildlife on Weedon Island where we can watch folks launch kayaks.

Come explore the winding streets and picturesque lakes of north Tampa and Forest Hills. The ride begins and ends at Gino's Restaurant, with restoom stops available at the start and along the route. The route will take us through neighborhoods that surround the Babe Zaharis Golf Course, turn north and continue beyond the Tampa city limits, and then return through Forest Hills and "old" Carrollwood. Breakfast at a "quaint" Columbian cafe next to Gino's at the end of the ride.

Come and enjoy this surprisingly shady, but rolling, route as we follow the meandering course of the Hillsborough River from Seminole Heights to Temple Terrace and back. Discover some of the quiet, hidden neighborhoods that line the river, while challenging yourself to some short, invigorating climbs. Enjoy breakfast after the ride at a "Heights" cafe, and perhaps a visit to the new bike store next door.


June 12 - Davis Islands Ride

We'll tour waterfront homes (including Derek Jeter's mansion), the airport, dog park and boat basin as we ride a circuitous route around Davis Islands. We'll end up at the Island Coffee Shop where we can enjoy coffee and pastries. This is a good ride for the novice rider because the pace is relaxed, the roads are quiet and traffic is minimal.

We begin near the entrance to Philippe Park and ride along the waters of Upper Tampa Bay until we connect with the Clearwater East/West Trail. Enjoy the twists, turns and short "hills" of this scenic bike trail as it winds through several of the area's prettiest parks. Following the ride we'll have breakfast at one of the restaurants in downtown Safety Harbor.

July 01 - Tour of Tampa from Lowry Park

We will ride leisurely along shady streets, and city bike paths as we tour Seminole Heights, Ybor City, Channelside, Harbor Island and downtown Tampa. This is a great ride for novice riders or those new to Tampa.

July 08 - Oldsmar Discovery

Beginning with a loop through Phillippe Park we will ride around the northern-most shores of Tampa Bay to discover the hidden secrets of Oldsmar. Oldsmar was named for R.E. Olds, an early automotive pioneer and founder of the REO Motor Car Company, and R.E. Olds Park on the shores of upper Tampa Bay is one of the first areas we'll pass through. Our journey next takes us to Mobbley Beach Park, then to Mobbly Bayou along the new Oldsmar Trail, continuing with a loop through Hillsborough County's Upper Tampa Bay Park before we work our way back to our cars. Restrooms at the parking lot and at all of the parks along the route. Breakfast after the ride.

We'll head north to explore the shady and bike-friendly, neighborhoods in and around Forest Hills and scenic, "old" Carrollwood. We'll cycle past lots of lakes, along tree-lined streets and even circle around parts of the Forest Hills Golf Course. Our breakfast will be at a unique Columbian restaurant after the ride.

August 5 - Pinellas Trail North - Dunedin to Tarpon Springs

From the Old Train Depot in Dunedin we will ride north on the Pinellas Trail through Ozona, Palm Harbor and Crystal Beach to Tarpon Springs and then return. The Pinellas Trail is considered by many to be Florida's premier trail, and this section its prettiest. The route is scenic and shady, with one biking bridge over the highway to add just a tiny challenge. Optional loops include riding through Anclote River Nature Park, Wall Springs Park and across the Intracoastal Waterway to Honeymoon Island and back. Restrooms at the train depot and at parks along the way. Breakfast in Dunedin after the ride.

 August 12 - Little Sights of Seminole Heights

Come join us as we make a circuit around and through different sections of Seminole Heights, one of Tampa's largest neighborhoods. Discover historic houses, lovely yards and pocket parks sprinkled along the Hillsborough River, as we avoid busy streets by taking less traveled connector roads. The terrain varies from flat to a bit of up and down when we're near the River, and most of the route is shaded by the gorgeous tree canopies for which Seminole Heights is known. This is a great ride for novice riders or for those wanting to tour a lovely, old neighborhood at a leisurely pace. Breakfast at the Independent Cafe after the ride.

From Trout Creek Park we'll ride north on Morris Bridge Road, cross the Hillsborough River and then enter Flatwoods Park. We'll ride the Flatwoods paved loop, stopping for a break at the halfway point, and then retrace our route back to Trout Creek. Look for deer and other wildlife in the woods. Breakfast at a local eatery after the ride.

On the return trip we'll  tour Snell Isle and its waterfront mansions, enjoy the wildlife on Weedon Island and, perhaps, watch folks launch kayaks.

We will leave from Gino's and ride over to and through the USF campus. From there we will go north and then west to North Tampa's Lake Park. Behind Lake Park we pick up a bike trail that will take us south through Northdale and then through Carrollwood Village on our way back to Forest Hills. We'll breakfast upon our return at a unique little Columbian restaurant next to Gino's.



October 30 - Philippe Park to the Clearwater East/West Trail

We begin near the entrance to Philippe Park and ride along the waters of Upper Tampa Bay until we connect with the Clearwater East/West Trail. Enjoy the twists, turns and short "hills" of this scenic bike trail as it winds through several of the area's prettiest parks. Following the ride we'll have breakfast in downtown Safety Harbor.

2011 SWFBUD Bicycle Bash - Sunday, November 6th
Celebrate the joy of bicycling with food, fun and cycling at beautiful Flatwoods Park, just off Morris Bridge Road. This year's fest is from 10 to 4 and features swap meets, activities for all kinds of riders, on-road and off-road, kids and even a ride with Tampa's mayor, Bob Buckhorn.. Rotary Ride So Kids Can Read - Saturday, November 12
Come ride, run or walk with the Rotary Club in Bartow. You'll have an opportunity to explore the quiet roads of southern Polk county on 18, 36, 64 or 100 mile routes, in addition to a 5K walk or run. November 6 - Trout Creek to Flatwoods and the Bicycle Bash

From Trout Creek Park we'll ride north on Morris Bridge Road, cross the Hillsborough River and then enter Flatwoods Park. We'll ride the 7 mile Flatwoods paved loop, stopping for a break at the halfway point, and then stopping at the main entrance to visit the Bicycle Bash displays. Then we will retrace our route back to Trout Creek. Look for deer and other wildlife in the woods. Breakfast at a local eatery after the ride.

November 13 - Tour of Tampa/Seminole Heights Sunday Morning Market

We will ride leisurely along shady streets, and city bike paths as we tour Seminole Heights, Ybor City, Channelside, Harbor Island and downtown Tampa. Our return will follow the Hillsborough River through Riverside Heights, Tampa Heights and South Seminole Heights. Upon our return we will enjoy foods, pastries and beverages (organic coffees and freshly squeezed fruit juices) from the Seminole Heights Sunday Morning Market located at Hillsborough High School. Secured bicycle parking is provided at the Market, courtesy of the Seminole Heights Bicycle Club. This is a great ride for novice riders or those new to Tampa.

November 20 - North Tampa Ride to Odessa

Ride from Carrollwood Village neighborhoods to the rural lanes and lakes of Odessa and then back. If you're lucky you might even see a llama! Enjoy bagels in Carrollwood following the ride.

November 27 - Davis Islands Ride

We'll tour waterfront homes (including Derek Jeter's mansion), the airport, dog park and boat basin as we ride a circuitous route around Davis Islands. We'll end up at the Island Coffee Shop where we can enjoy coffee and pastries. This is a good ride for the novice rider because the pace is relaxed, the roads are quiet and traffic is minimal.


December 4 - Independent Pub to MacDill

Ride from the Independent Beer Pub in Seminole Heights to MacDill AFB via the new downtown Riverwalk, Bayshore Blvd and the Gadsden Park Bike Trail. Stop at Ballast Point on the way back, returning through Hyde Park and along the winding streets that line the Hillsborough River. Enjoy Sunday brunch, pastries and gourmet coffee back at the Independent.

We begin by riding through pretty and peaceful South Tampa neighborhoods, and then continue south to Port Tampa and Picnic Island where we take a break. We ride on in Port Tampa to the American Legion Post where we enjoy a scenic "bayside" breakfast, and then pedal back to our cars.

Highlands Bike Fest - December 9 - 11

Ride the scenic, rolling and citrus tree-filled hills of south-central Florida, as well as the quiet, tropical atmosphere of Highlands Hammock State Park. Come for one, two or three days and experience Florida the way it "used to be" from the wide porches and comfortable rocking chairs of the of historic Kennilworth Lodge.
