The park's trail takes us along large areas of restored native plants and beautiful views of the Gulf of Mexico and the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Once back at Tierra Verde Center we'll enjoy an authentic "old world" breakfast at a German crepes restaurant.

December 9 - Little Sights of Seminole Heights/Sunday Morning Market
  • Meeting Time: 8:00 AM (riders leave promptly at 8:15 AM)
  • Meeting Location: Memorial Middle School, 4702 N. Central Avenue, Tampa 33603 (corner of Central and Osborne - park on the OSBORNE side of the school, across from the Hillsborough High School track). Note: restrooms will be open at the Hillsborough High School gym at the far end of the track
  • Distance: 13 miles
  • Speed: 10 -12 mph
  • Ride Leader: Margaret Shepherd (813) 254-8882
Come join us as we make a circuit around and through different sections of Seminole Heights, one of Tampa's largest neighborhoods. Discover historic houses, lovely yards and pocket parks sprinkled along the Hillsborough River, as we avoid busy streets by taking less traveled connector roads. The terrain varies from flat to a bit of up and down when we're near the River, and most of the route is shaded by the gorgeous tree canopies for which Seminole Heights is known. We'll return in time to enjoy the food, fun and other offerings at the Sunday Morning Market across the street from our starting spot. Secure, complimentary bicycle parking is provided at the Market by volunteers from the Seminole Heights Bicycle Club. This is a great ride for novice riders or for those wanting to tour a lovely, old neighborhood at a leisurely pace.

December 16 - Them Thar Hills around San Antonio
  • Meeting Time: 8:00 AM (riders leave promptly at 8:15 AM)
  • Meeting Location: San Antonio Railroad Depot Museum, 32627 Railroad Ave, San Antonio, FL 33576.
  • Distance: 22 miles with the addition of a very hilly 5-mile loop at the end of the ride, depending upon group's wishes
  • Speed: 12-14 mph
  • Ride Leader: John (813) 935-1497
A challenging and "hilly" ride. We will start at the San Antonio Railroad Depot Museum and head south beyond San Antonio for our first climb up Prospect Road. Most of our riding will take us north to northeast of San Antonio and then back. About one quarter to one third of the ride is actually flat to gently rolling, although there are some hills with "interesting" grades including Happy Hill Road and The Three Sisters. If you have a standard compact double front crank you can do the ride. You just spin your way up. There is no shame in walking part-way (or all the way) up, either! Breakfast at the little San Antonio Deli afterwards. We will be in the "country" for this ride, so be sure you come prepared with TWO bottle of water. Restrooms at the ballfield, across the street from our meeting location. (Note: Basic directions from Tampa. I-75 north to Exit 285 onto FL- 52 E towards San Antonio/Dade City. Turn left onto Curley Rd/Co Rd 577 for .08 miles and turn left onto Railroad Ave. The railroad depot museum will be on the left. Landmarks look for railroad cars and a depot.)

December 23 - Davis Islands Ride
  • Meeting Time: 8:00 AM (riders leave promptly at  8:15 AM)
  • Meeting Location: HCC Tennis Courts Parking Lot, 59 Columbia Drive, Tampa 33603 (next to Tampa General Hospital)
  • Distance: 14-18 miles
  • Speed: 12-14 mph
  • Ride Leader: Les (813) 598-4944
We'll tour waterfront homes (including Derek Jeter's mansion), the airport, dog park and boat basin as we ride a circuitous route around Davis Islands. We'll end up at a coffee shop on the Islands where we can enjoy coffee and pastries. This is a good ride for the novice rider because the pace is relaxed, the roads are quiet and traffic is minimal. For those who want to add 10 miles to the ride, there will be a group riding down from Seminole Heights to the starting location. Call Les or Susie (813-236-8119) if you want to join up with them.

December 30 - Thonotosassa Circuit
  • Meeting Time: 8:00 AM (riders leave promptly at 8:15 AM)
  • Meeting Location: John B. Sergeant's Park, 12702 US Highway 301, Thonotosassa, FL 33592 (bring $2 parking fee)
  • Distance: 33 miles
  • Speed: 12-16 mph
  • Ride Leader: Susie (813) 236-8119
This is a scenic ride along the rolling hills and rural farmlands surrounding Lake Thonotosassa. We'll cycle south from the park, around the lake and then up, down and around the peaceful roads and country lanes of eastern Hillsborough County. We'll end up on the oh too short Ft. King bike trail as we return to the park. Keep an eye out for hawks, vultures, sandhill cranes and strawberries in the fields. Restrooms at the park. WARNING: NO water (i.e., no stores) on this route, so make sure you start with two bottles of liquid. Unless we chance by the odd porta-John, any necessary stops will be true "natural breaks." Breakfast after the ride.
