Come and enjoy this surprisingly shady, but rolling, route as we follow the meandering course of the Hillsborough River from Seminole Heights to Temple Terrace and back. Discover the quiet, hidden neighborhoods that line the river, while challenging yourself to some short, invigorating climbs. There are lots of twists and turns on this ride before we open up to some rolling stretches in Temple Terrace. We'll drive to breakfast after the ride, possibly hooking up with the riders from the Seminole Heights ride at the Sunday Market. Restrooms at the boat launch across the street before and after the ride. This one was rained out in December, so let's hope for a dryer day this Sunday.

For the Seminole Heights/Sunday Morning Market Ride:
  • Meeting Time: 8:00 AM (riders leave promptly at 8:15 AM)
  • Meeting Location: Memorial Middle School, 4702 N. Central Avenue, Tampa 33603 (corner of Central and Osborne - park on the OSBORNE side of the school, across from the Hillsborough High School track). Note: restrooms will be open at the Hillsborough High School gym at the far end of the track

Come join us as we make a circuit around and through different sections of Seminole Heights, one of Tampa's largest neighborhoods. Discover historic houses, lovely yards and pocket parks sprinkled along the Hillsborough River, as we avoid busy streets by taking less traveled connector roads. We'll return in time to enjoy the food, fun and other offerings at the Sunday Morning Market, located on the front lawn of Hillsborough High School, across the street from our starting spot. Secure, complimentary bicycle parking is provided at the Market by volunteers from the Seminole Heights Bicycle Club. This is a great ride for novice riders or for those wanting to tour a lovely, old neighborhood at a slow and leisurely pace.

  • Distance: 14-18 miles
  • Speed: 10-12 mph
  • Ride Leader: Les (813) 598-4944
We'll tour waterfront homes (including Derek Jeter's mansion), the airport, dog park and boat basin as we ride a circuitous route around Davis Islands. We'll end up at a coffee shop on the Islands where we can enjoy coffee and pastries. This is a good ride for the novice rider because the pace is relaxed, the roads are quiet and traffic is minimal. For those who want to add 10 miles to the ride, there will be a group riding down from Seminole Heights to the starting location. Call Les (813) 598-4944 if you want to join up with them.
Note: Restrooms along the route, but NONE at the start.

December 28 - Pinellas Trail South
  • Meeting Time: 8:00 AM,  (riders leave promptly at 8:15 AM)
  • Meeting Location:  Parking lot behind Dunedin Historical Museum/Old Train Depot, 349 Main Street, Dunedin 34698 - the lot is just beyond Douglas and Main Streets and the intersection with the Pinellas Trail
  • Distance:
  • ~30 miles
  • Speed: 12-16 mph
  • Ride Leader: Will and Sandra (859-948-4684)
Starting at the Dunedin Trailhead we'll ride south on the Fred Marquis Pinellas Trail for about 15 miles, then turn around and return. We'll ride through the industrial outskirts of Clearwater on a newly recycled "bicycle boulevard", and then hit the quiet and shady residential areas of Bellaire, Largo and Seminole. Just before our turnaround point at Tyrone Square in northern St. Pete we'll cycle the Cross Bayou bridge over peaceful Boca Ciega Bay, one of the last sections of the trail to be completed. This is a unique and popular urban trail. There are many road crossings, some with bridges over the most heavily travelled highways. The entire ride will be on the trail. If you don't want to do the entire distance, feel free to start with us and then turn around whenever you wish. You can ride back on your own, or wait and we'll pick you up on our return ride back. After the ride we'll walk to breakfast at a local Dunedin restaurant.
