Earl and I and several friends are planning to ride the
Silver Comet and Chief Ladiga bike trails in October. The Silver Comet Trail is
64.5 miles in length, begins in Smyrna, Georgia (near Atlanta) and runs west to
the Alabama border where it connects to the Chief Ladiga trail. The Chief
Ladiga Trail is 33 miles long, making the combined trails the longest
contiguous paved bike trail in the country. Over 50 miles of the trails are
built on old railways, and the trail is famed for being scenic, rolling (that means hilly!), wooded and
winding.
Here are the dates of our ride:
October 5 – arrive Atlanta/Smyrna
October 6 – ride from Smyrna to Cedartown (51 miles)
October 7 – ride from Cedartown to Anniston, AL (44.5 miles)
October 8 – ride from Anniston to Cedartown
October 9 – ride from Cedartown to Smyrna
If you are interested in participating with us let me know and
I can send you the information on the hotels where we are staying. This is a self-supported ride. This means you have to
carry everything you need for the four days of riding on your bike! Also, by participating, you agree that you
are riding at your own risk and are responsible for yourself, your
own bike, reservations, food, expenses, etc. If you just want to ride halfway, there is
an option of taking Amtrak in Anniston and riding the train back to Atlanta.
You would need to make these arrangements on your own.
I’ve never done this ride before, so I can’t tell you more
about it, other than recommendations from people who have ridden it and what
I’ve read on the website which is listed below.
